There are some things you should do in order to maximize your saleability to potential employers after graduation.

With everyone now attending college after high school, a bachelor’s degree does not mean as much as it used to.  Now you must either have some experience or a graduate degree; sometimes both to be a competitive applicant.  To help give you that edge, keep up to date on information related to your field.  Read magazines, newspapers, and watch for new technology or methods that are emerging.

Most internships count as credits toward graduation and usually pay near minimum wage (if you’re lucky).  Many employers are seeking driven young people with a BA/BS and at least some experience. This will give you an edge over the other applicants that may land you a better starting salary.  Seek out internships through your professors, advisors and with local companies.  If you cannot locate anything through the school, inquire with local businesses to see if you may initiate an internship program.
